This piece is a white Prismacolor drawing on black paper. I created it in an art class a few years ago when we were assigned to draw something that “captures light.” I found a photograph of a lion with light falling down and dust glinting in the air, and I found it enrapturing.

The composition features thick white lines in the brightest areas, where the light radiates off the fur. Using thin pencil strokes, I created strands and fine hairs, building from light to heavy with three layers of linework to achieve a fur-like texture.

This piece represents a moment in my artistic journey when I began to focus on technique, not just content.
