50 DAYS UNTIL DRILL NATIONALS
As we got closer to JROTC Drill Nationals, I wanted to create a hype video that would remind people how close we were and push them to stay focused. I recorded footage at a local drill meet to capture that energy and give younger cadets something they could be proud to be part of.
For this project, I used a full setup with multiple lenses and shot in 4K RAW using my iPhone with an external drive. I focused on making each shot feel dynamic and impactful.
While filming, I experimented with different lenses and angles, which pushed me to think more intentionally about how each shot contributes to the overall feel of the video. I also focused on capturing moments that felt intense and real rather than just assembling footage.
In editing, I used DaVinci Resolve Studio and explored new tools like rotoscoping and motion tracking. In the opening shot, I cut out the cadets and tracked text onto the wall to make it feel like part of the scene. That process changed how I think about what’s possible in editing.
This project pushed me to be more intentional with both filming and editing, and it helped me better understand how to create energy and clarity at the same time.
